The 2012 European Armoured Figthing Vehicles Symposium, the seventeenth iteration in the series of Symposia at Shrivenham, will expand last year's theme of the need for survivability at a sensible weight for an affordable price. Experience from current operations highlight the need for all-round protection for armoured fighting vehicles but,in order to survive,the trend appears to be increased size and cost of platforms to achieve a capability. The penalty is weight - the trend is for a heavier platforms with the inherent problem of mobility,both strategic and tactical. This is the challange which we hope to debate,particularly in the light of the SV programme, in the secure yet informal and convival surroundings of the Defence Academy ar Shrivenham.
